When to take maternity photos? The perspective of a Melbourne photographer
Are you thinking that you should capture this moment in your life, but you look on the net and can’t help but cringe at some tacky maternity images? Fear no more! Through this blog post we will dive into the process of a maternity photo, so you feel comfortable and confident when you book your maternity photo shoot.
Finding out that you are expecting a baby is a milestone in every family’s life that, if you are lucky enough you will be able to enjoy it a few times. As such, this should be documented so that you can look back and remember this stage in your life and hopefully be reminded of the good times. Photography is the legacy that we leave for our families and a maternity portrait session is a great way to begin recording these memories for your yet to be born baby.
A maternity photography session is also the beginning of your journey into motherhood. Through this session I would love to capture your story, by choosing to have your session at a meaningful location, or at home and including elements that are meaningful to your life and the things you enjoy at this point in time.
Through the planning stages of your maternity photography session we can brainstorm possible locations, and a good starting point could be a place you feel comfortable in, like your home or a place that you visited as a couple with your partner. Most locations in Melbourne Metro and Mornington peninsula are available at no further traveling cost.
When should you take maternity photos?
A few things to consider when planning your photo session is at what stage in your pregnancy you should book your session. It’s probably wise to look early if you find out you are pregnant around August as Spring and summer are the busiest times in a photographer’s calendar.
Around the 30th to 34th week is ideal, as you can get very uncomfortable once you pass the 35th week. Keep in mind the season of the year when you will be around that stage of your pregnancy as hot summer days can be uncomfortable for you.
What happens if I book my maternity photography session and my baby is a premmie?
Even if we craft the best plans, sometimes life and nature can throw a curve ball. There are a number of complications that can develop later in your pregnancy. For piece of mind the fee for your session will only be due on the day of your session, to give you piece of mind that we can reschedule or arrange something different so that we can adapt to any unexpected situation.
When should you book your maternity photography session if you are expecting twins?
Multiple pregnancies can be a little bit more delicate so we recommend you to aim at booking your session at around your 20th week or over. This is not set in stone, but it’s a good gauge as you tend to get uncomfortable and heavier a lot quicker.
I really hope that this article will help you to decide and plan a maternity photography session that is both amazing and also memorable. Remember that this stage in your life is only short and worth remembering!
I can’t wait to meet your family and start planning your maternity photography session.
