3 things I learned from Facu Santana and his Street Photography work

Street photography doesn’t come easy to me, it’s a mental process that takes concentration and patience and that is rewarding when you feel that the stars align, and other times it can be frustrating. A bit like a meditation when I go out on the street I need to have my mind in blank to be able to see shapes and interesting options of what otherwise looks like an everyday scene.

This year I had the opportunity to learn a bit more about street photography from Facu Santana, understanding their choices and what they look for in a scene opened my eyes to new possibilities.

The 3 things I learned from Facu were:

  • FRAME and Composition: don’t shy away from the hard light but the opposite: look for it to frame your subject. Look for your frame, say a little pray and wait for your subject to fall into place.

  • Not every frame you shoot will make the final cut, still shoot and be always ready with your camera close to your eye waiting for that moment

  • above all: LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR CRAP PHOTOGRAPHY , take inspiration form the classics, the Magnum photographers and other genres pf photography to cultivate your visual narrative.
